Emmet from Rushe Fitness shares seven habits for success to set you up for the week.

Building new habits into your daily routine is a great way to help you to get success with your goals.

Usually it takes anywhere between 14-28 days for something that is done daily to become a habit.

If you have found it difficult to stick to new things there can be two reasons for this.

  • You are trying to do too much at once.
  • You haven’t given it long enough before stopping.

Trying to change everything at once usually feed into the reason that people tend to stop before you get started.

You get around 2 weeks into your new goals and are met with overwhelm and you need to take a step back as you realise you have done too much too soon.

But, instead of stopping, you just need to reassess your goals and plan out an easier path.

That way, once you have mastered one habit, you can easily add another alongside it and slowly build them up over weeks and months, rather than trying to do everything in the first 2 weeks of starting.

Here are seven habits for success to set you up for the week.

Pick one that resonates most with you and start with that, and when you can successfully do it daily without thinking about it, add another.

  1. Practice Gratitude
We tend to focus more on the things that go wrong more than the things that go right for us.
Instead, try writing all the good things you have in your life in a Gratitude journal each morning or evening.
It keep your mind focused on the positive things and will stop you focusing on any negative things.
  2. Read or Listen to an Inspirational book.
I know that you may not be in the habit of sitting down to read a book.
But, if you read or listened to a chapter or even a few pages each day, you would be surprised as to how many you will finish at the end of the year.
You will also be listening to people who have changed their lives by overcoming struggles and these in turn can help you to succeed.
  3. Move your Body Every Day.
Daily exercise helps with your health, your mental health, focus and clarity.
So, make sure you get your session in at the gym and on the other days even going for a walk is enough to keep your body and mind healthy.
  4. Prioritise
The best way to have a successful day is to do the most important tasks first thing in the morning.
It gets them done and out of the way and then you can focus on everything else on your to do list.
  5. Plan Your Day the Night Before
If you plan out what you have to do the night before, you will have a head start on everything you need to do to have a successful day.
It only takes a few minutes to do and it can make all the difference.
Like having your gym bag packed and ready to go, so you are ready to train when the time comes.
  6. Create A Morning Routine
If you have important tasks to do in the morning, try getting up an hour earlier to give yourself some time to do them before everyone else wakes up.
Our early morning gym goers use the morning classes for this purpose. They manage to get their workouts in and get home before anyone has woken up.
  7. Take Some Time to be Quiet
5-10 minutes of quiet time can make a huge difference in calming the mind.
You can add this in whenever you can, but first thing in the morning or last thing at night is a great way to get you mind focused and away from the distractions of phones, computers and emails that tend to fill our days.

There you have it, seven habits for success that you can use to keep yourself focused and motivated towards having a better week.

Again, pick the one that resonates most with you and start with that, and when you can successfully do it daily without thinking about it, add another.

You will find that you can change your entire routine and life by dripfeeding in better habits that will last.
