It's party season! MUA Lynda Strain shares her essential guide to make a makeup look last all night.

Late nights, less sleep, food and alcohol can all play a major part in how we feel, how our skin looks and most importantly how we retain longevity out of our makeup application.   We want to look good all day long!

I have put together some of my tried and tested makeup methods and my products to help your makeup stay flawless and fab this Christmas!

Prime Time

Q. Why use primer?

A. Primer will create a layer between your skin and makeup therefore it will act as a barrier for oilier skin ensuring it will lock foundation onto your skin. It will also smooth out fine lines and wrinkles ensuring smooth flawless skin whilst also minimising enlarged pores. Check out my Diamond Primer only €20

Wearing the correct foundation for your skin type is a must. The best foundations for long-lasting effects will be water based or mineral based.

Oil based foundations tend to wear off a lot quicker especially on an oilier skin. Always start with a little foundation using a flat foundation brush and build up allowing each application of foundation to set onto the skin. By applying too much foundation at once will not only waste product but also take a lot longer to dry and will not set completely therefore ensuring that you won’t get as long out of your makeup.

You can still get good coverage by applying your foundation this way just gently keep building.

Flawless Finish Foundation €30. Light/Medium coverage. Good for all skin types but especially oily and sensitive skins due to the soothing and anit-oxidant properties of Vitamin E. Contains wheatgerm which helps against ageing.

HD Collagen Foundation €35 Medium/Full coverage. Mature/Dehydrated Skins. High Definition leaves a dewy finish on your skin due to the main active ingredient of Collagen present whilst also plumping out fine lines and wrinkles.

Loose Mineral Foundation €25. All skin types except dry/dehydrated skin. Light/Medium coverage. Natural mineral powders containing natural SPF 15. Light weight feel leaving your skin with a dewy finish.

Pressed Mineral Foundation. €30 All Skin types except dry/dehydrated. Has all of the benefits of a loose mineral but is much easier and quicker to use and can also be used as a compact powder as it has a matte finish.

Setting Powder

I know some people do not like the look or feel of a powder on their skin but using a mineral setting powder free from talc will set your foundation fixing it into your skin. It will also ensure to absorb any excess oil or shine. Lock it in mineral setting powder €25.

Compact Powder

A compact powder is a key accessory to any makeup bag on a night out if you are prone to oily skin or tend to perspire a lot.

A pressed powder can be used discreetly to blot away any shine occurring as the night moves on and leaving your makeup intact and you looking as good as you did at the beginning of the night.
