McElhinneys Beauty Expert Noeleen McGowan gives her top tips on the new season of fun and fresh makeup trends.

Noeleen Mc Gowan – Cosmetics Manager at McElhinneys

Hi Ladies,

Before I get into what’s new for Spring Summer 2018, we are so excited here in McElhinneys to announce the official opening of our new Beauty Hall, with special guest Suzanne Jackson (aka So Sue Me). Suzanne will be cutting the ribbon on Saturday the 24th of February at 2pm, so do come along as this is not to be missed!

That weekend is our New Season Launch Weekend, and there will be lots of activity going on in-store, including live beauty demos, wardrobe workshops, great discounts and loads of giveaways! We will be showcasing all things fashion and beauty, and outlining what’s ahead for Spring Summer 2018 with our ‘Be An Individual’ Campaign!

So, what’s new in Beauty for Spring Summer 2018?

Get the Glitter Bug

If there was one beauty trend that dominated the fashion shows, it was make-up artists’ obsession with all things sparkly, shimmery and shiny. Glittery eyelids were all the rage, along with stick on gems, jewels and rhinestones.

There was even glitter on lips – so girls it’s definitely time to shine! If like me, you don’t want to go too glittery, my tip is to just add a glitter pencil to your look and you are bang on trend.

Electro Bright Eyes

Bright, neon colours were on show, with orange, pink, aquamarine and blue! The bolder the better!

Again, if you don’t want to go too over the top, try a pop of colour around the eyes over a nude base.

Check out Paese, who carry some fabulous colours in shadows and pencils that are incredibly affordable.

The Freehand Eyeliner

Freehand Eyeliner was definitely on trend, as seen on the John Galiano Catwalk Show. The eyeliner flick came in all shapes and sizes – not a look for the faint hearted!

A subtler look can look amazing, and you can adjust the wing to suit your eye shape.

Check out Lancôme and Shiseido for their amazing gel liners.

Cherry Pop Lips

Summers lip tones are bright and beautiful, with lots of perky pinks, and of course my favourite reds; ranging from coral, to tomato, to raspberry and cherry.

High shine and metallic fuchsia is the shade for Spring!

Supermodel Skin

Skin is in! Glowing complexions on a fresh face, almost like a baby’s skin, with a purplish primer blended around the eyes.

At Lancôme, it’s all about their brand-new strobe, highlight, glow and sculpt custom drops. Get the look by mixing the custom highlight drop with your foundation, or by wearing it on its own.

Lancome Custom Drops

Peachy Trend

At Estee Lauder it is all about the peach flush on cheeks. Achieve this look by sweeping the colour from the apples of the cheeks in a C shape upwards towards the temples – this will give your skin a windswept glow.

Finish the look with the Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Lipstick, in shade Naked Desire, which brightens lips with a brushed metal finish.
Now your all set for Spring Summer 2018, be sure to call in for our Official Beauty Hall launch on Saturday the 24th of February at 2pm with Suzanne Jackson!

See you soon,
