Stylist Breid McDaid is here to help us step out in style with the top footwear picks for spring/summer 2017.

So we’ve talked in detail about how we’re going to update and revamp our wardrobes to make them Spring/Summer ready, it’s now time to tackle the shoe department. With summer fast approaching and being teased with bouts of some rare sunshine I’m eager to set the boots aside and switch to some lighter, more breathable footwear.

Thankfully there’s never a lack of choice in this department, and with the summer months comes a wide selection of styles, colours, prints and more. From casual daytime loafers to textured mules and strappy sandals for that night time glam, I’ve chosen a selection from all categories.

Personally, I’m loving ‘mules’ of every description, a shoe type that are becoming increasing popular each S/S season. They tick almost every criteria you could ask for. They are very versatile, with their reasonably low heel they are appropriate daytime attire, while also dressy enough to vamp things up for a night time look when required.

Along with the preferable heel height, most pairs of ‘mules’ come in a sturdy block shape, making comfort key. As the main design feature is a thick strap sweeping across the centre of the foot and falling well below the ankle, the fear of making the leg look shorter is very much eliminated…phew!

Metallics, vibrant, bright colours and embroidery are all hot this season. Penneys have an excellent dupe for the much sought after luxury Gucci loafers, and come in plain metallic silver, black or both in an embroidered version.

High streets stores such as River Island, H&M, Office, Aldo and New Look are all safe bets when searching for stylish footwear. Hopefully you find something to catch your eye while browsing my top picks and transition and step out in style this Spring/Summer season.
