What a night we had at the She Said Club at the Shandon Hotel last night! The ‘Nourish to Flourish’ event was a bumper mix of fun, friendship and sharing. Founded by Naomh McElhatton, this club is all about women sharing their stories.

We heard from an inspirational group of guest speakers who all had a common quality – resilience. As an extension of International Women’s Day, the night was a chance to celebrate women’s experiences with honesty and openness.

We also learned top tips for taking care of our bodies and our minds from Dr Carla Devlin, while Mammy Banter Serena Terry offered very real advice about social media, the insecurities it can foster and the control we have to change what we see.

Shandon Hotel Director and General Manager Carolynne Harrison shared the trials and tribulations of running a hotel during the pandemic, and how she embraced the challenge. She also offered an insight into her impressive drive towards the continued development of the resort.

The special thing about the She Said Club is that it’s a sharing space that encourages women to talk about the ups and downs of life. They show others that failures happen as often as wins. Naomh’s other guests included Louise Carey, a former air stewardess who is now thriving in business with Essens Fragrance. Suzanne McAneney from Lemonade Marketing also turned a setback into an opportunity, and she has major ambitions for her PR and marketing business.

Praise must go to Lucille Cassidy from Sandhill House in Dunfanaghy too, who used her skills to get everyone relaxed just as the evening was kicking off!

For many of us, the event was a long-overdue chance to relax, see how far we’ve come, and set intentions for greater self-care.

The Shandon was the perfect setting for the return of the She Said Club. The hotel’s location, overlooking the tranquil water at Marble Hill, gave guests a feeling of escape and rest. And in the morning, many revived themselves with a chilly dip in the sea – I only wish I was brave enough to join them!
