Portsalon holidaymakers have a brand new seaside takeaway to try this summer – Pierside at Portsalon.
Pierside opened its doors last week providing fresh homemade food that’s never frozen.
Located in the former building of The Pier Restaurant, Pierside is under the new management of Liam Barrett and Alexandra Manning Barrett.
The foodie couple set out to provide only top quality takeaway food. Within a week of opening, they are already receiving great feedback about their fresh and tasty menu with Chef Sean Douglas at the helm.
“People have been surprised it’s takeaway and not restaurant food,” says Alex.
“We had a great opening weekend thanks to our phenomenal team.”
While indoor dining is in their future plans, Pierside is ideally situated to cater to tourists and local residents who enjoy casual dining outside for now.
The menu is satisfyingly simple – fresh fish and chips, burgers, chips and vegan burgers and bites with the majority of dishes being gluten free (ask for details). The batter and sauces and made in-house, the fish comes fresh from Killybegs and fruit and veg comes locally from Doherty Roe.
Hospitality is in Liam and Alex’s nature. Liam, from Letterkenny, runs Co-Host.ie, a professional Airbnb co-hosting service, while Alex, from Cork, has vast experience in wedding and events planning.
When the opportunity to build a business in Portsalon came, they took the leap.
“When I first moved to Donegal I would get homesick and we came here to Portsalon most evenings to go to the beach. It’s one of my favourite places,” Alex said.
“All the locals have been so nice and supportive and especially welcoming. It’s so lovely to see so many tourists this summer experiencing Donegal. Plus, DLDC were a great support in helping us set up the business.”
Exciting plans are in store for Pierside in the weeks and months to come, so if you’re touring Donegal this summer, make sure to stop by!
