Irish actor Paul Mescal is currently working on a psychological drama in Co Donegal, it has been revealed.

The Normal People star is co-starring in A24’s God’s Creatures, which is filming on location in south Donegal. Chernobyl star Emily Watson and The Fall acting star Aisling Franciosi are among the leading cast members.

As reported by Deadline, the film is set in a rain-swept Irish fishing village, and focuses on the devastating fallout after a mother lies to protect her son.

Award-winning directors Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer are at the helm, with the script written by Shane Crowley. The film is being produced by Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, of the award-winning and critically acclaimed successes Ammonite and Lady Macbeth.

Producers had been casting extras from the Donegal area in recent months, and were particularly interested in finding people with fishing skills.

God’s Creatures is being produced by Sixty-Six Pictures and backed by BBC Films, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, and the Western Regional Audiovisual Production Fund (WRAP Fund).
