Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson is set for the silver screen after being cast in upcoming superhero film The Flash.

The popular actress, who grew up between Derry and Greencastle in Donegal, will work alongside Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton in the latest DC action movie.

Her role is being kept under wraps, but we do know that The Flash is scheduled for release in Ireland on 4 November, 2022. Production on the movie is expected to restart later this year.

Saoirse-Monica Jackson shot to fame as Erin, the lead character in the hit Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls. After two hugely successful seasons, the shooting of its third season has been delayed by Covid-19.

The 27-year-old said she was screaming with “absolute glee” as she announced her latest casting news on Instagram.
