Inspirational Letterkenny woman Lisa Gallagher is sporting a brand new look after shaving her head for charity.

Lisa, who is undergoing cancer treatment, decided to turn her hair loss into something positive and raise funds for Cancer Care West.

The 51-year-old pre-school leader wanted to give back to the centre which has supported her since her shock diagnosis earlier this year.

Surrounded by friends and family, Lisa smiled the whole way through her haircut this afternoon.

It was an afternoon of mixed emotions as Lisa parted with her blonde hair but soon said hello to a beautiful stylish new hairpiece.

Hairdresser Julie McGuigan and the team at Haircraft Letterkenny went above and beyond during the entire process and were delighted to work with Lisa to design her new ‘do.

Speaking to Donegal Woman after the head shave, Lisa said: “Thanks to all my family and friends for supporting me and everyone that has donated to raise so much money for Cancer Care West. Thanks also to Julie and everyone at Haircraft for all that they’ve done.”

“I love my wig, so that has taken the edge off things!”

Lisa is already known as a local superwoman, having made it to the final of Ireland’s Fittest Family in 2022, alongside her children Connor, Molly, and James.

Now, as she faces her next challenge, she is determined to take it one day at a time and keep focusing on the positives. Part of that mindset has been helped by the team at Cancer Care West. Lisa has availed of counselling, advice and reflexology at the centre in Letterkenny, which she describes as a “Godsend in our community.”
