Women of all ages from various parts of Donegal took part in fun outdoor events held locally by Donegal Sports Partnership to mark ‘Women in Sport Week’.

A group of 20 braved the cold waters of Rathmullan Beach to participate in the “sunrise dip and swim” on the morning of International Women’s Day. This event was organised in conjunction with Swim Ireland and was headed up by coaches, Paddy Bond Snr and Karen Crawford.

Later in the week, twelve women joined the first session in the four-week kayaking programme at Gartan Outdoor Activity Centre.

“We were delighted with the participation in both events,” commented Donegal Sports Partnership’s Education and Training Officer, Maggie Farrelly.

“It was great to see so many come together at such an early hour for the ‘sunrise dip and swim’ in Rathmullan. There was also a keen interest in the kayaking programme which is all about providing an opportunity for the participants to put their kayaking skills into practice,” she added.
