The Whoriskey’s of Kerrykeel are celebrating the success and generous support of another great festive fundraiser.

A total of €12,140 was raised for Pieta last Christmas thanks to Mary and Michael’s dazzling lights display.

Every year for the last 16 years, the Whoriskey’s have extensively lit up their home and garden with more than 20,000 light bulbs and hundreds of different configurations. The display brings Christmas cheer to visiting families from all over. More than €77,000 has been raised for several worthy causes over the years.

2020 was a more challenging year, due to travel restrictions and social distancing, but the family was determined not to let the pandemic dull spirits. Mary and Michael made the lights a more virtual event for those who couldn’t visit, and for those who could, there was plenty of space for people to walk around – or to get engaged in the case of one local couple!

Mary and Michael receive great praise for their year-round dedication to this cheery display, but their biggest reward of all is the joy of donating the proceeds to charities in the New Year.

The total figure for 2020 includes online donations and €450 donated from LCA class in Loreto Community School in Milford from their fundraising day at the school.

The Whoriskey’s wish to thank everyone who came along to the lights and all those who made a donation either in Kerrykeel or online.

A big word of thanks to anyone who sponsored the running costs of the display. Lastly to their family, friends and neighbours who helped with the display and a special word of thanks to the Christmas Lights Supervisor, Ollie Whoriskey.
