A DONEGAL woman has received an outpouring of support after losing her home in a fire at Christmas.

Amanda Ramsay’s life was saved by her beloved dog Winston when her County Leitrim home caught fire on December 29th.

Thanks to Winston, she made it out physically unharmed, but she has been left devastated after losing her home of almost 20 years.

“She has lost everything,” her daughter Holly said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by her children Holly, James and Will to help Amanda rebuild her life.

Amanda Ramsay and her family

Amanda grew up in Ballyraine, Letterkenny in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s and attended secondary school in the Royal and Prior in Raphoe.

She worked in the Mount Errigal Hotel, the Shandon Hotel and the Rosapenna Hotel before moving to the UK for several years.

For the last 17 years, Amanda has lived in Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, but her life has been turned upside-down after the devastating fire.

Holly said: “Thanks to her dog Winston, she made it out physically unharmed and for that we are so glad.

“Her house and everything she owned has been destroyed. She has no insurance and no means to rebuild her life. She is completely devastated.

“She has been through a very difficult time over the past 18 years with much hardship including serious mental health problems. What she needs now more than anything is love, kindness and support.”
