As Donegal gears up to go green for St. Patrick's Day, Met Eireann says there's a high chance we'll be seeing shades of white this weekend!

A Status Yellow snow and ice alert has been issued for Donegal this Friday night. It’s snow joke either, as forecasters predict accumulations of up to 3cm and accumulations are likely to be greater on higher ground.

Motorists are being urged to take care as this snowy spell may lead to poor driving conditions.

Temperatures will dip to “close to freezing” in the north west on Friday night.

The Status Yellow alert is valid from midnight Friday/Saturday morning until 12noon on Saturday.

Sleet, hail and snow showers are expected throughout a very cold Saturday. Temperatures are expected to drop to lows of -2C on Saturday night.

And those who will be out and about celebrating St. Patrick’s Day will need to wrap up well.

The outlook for Sunday is for a cold and breezy day with sun and scattered showers. Sunday night will be mainly dry, but cold, with freezing likely at lows of -1C.
