Beauty columnist Kerry Harvey this week shares some handy beauty saves you've probably never heard of before.

This week, I want to share my Top 5 at home beauty hacks! I’ve come across these again and again when out on my bridal beauty travels, and you’re guaranteed to have most, if not all of these items at home to tackle any last minute sticky situation!

Get Yourself Out of a Sticky Situation with Nail Polish Remover!

Having a small bottle of nail polish remover in your cupboard is a must, not only for removing nail polish, but it has another fabulous use which all of us girls have come up against!

You know those new shoes you took that sticky label off?  The one that now keeps trapping hair and dirt where the sticker once was and you just can’t seem to shift the residue? Well, fear no more!

Pop a little nail polish remover on a cotton pad and start to gently remove the unwanted tacky residue. If you’re scared it might take away or discolour your soles, then do a little test patch with a cotton bud – personally, it always works for me and never once have I seen it remove anything other than that tacky mess that some labels seem to leave behind!

New Shoe Blisters Be Gone with Vaseline!

Don’t your feet look fabulous in those 5-inch peep-toe sling backs?

Cut to 6 hours later…you’re hobbling along with a few blisters arising fast where those once fabulous toes of yours are peaking out, and the sling back is now cutting deep into your slightly swollen ankles…to begin with, some organised people (who are they?) prep to minimise this all too common train wreck.

Try and wear your new shoes in beforehand – an hour every evening around the house the week of your big event or even stuff them with football socks (as they’re stiff as a board and will softly loosen the shape for some leeway when your feet swell a little)

Or, if you’re last minute.com like me, simply rub some vaseline around the rims or sharp edges of your high-heels to soften those areas of the shoe. Not all weddings have the beautiful basket of first aid and toiletries in the restroom, so if worst comes to worst, pop a few plasters in your purse!

PS – rub a little Vaseline on those areas where you spray your favourite perfume (beforehand) as it enhances the scent for longer!

De-Stress and De-Puff with Luxury DIY Ice Cubes!

Great for cocktails, but also fantastic for those puffy eyes!

If you’re on a long hen weekend and need to look super fresh for all outings, then a great tip is to freeze some green tea into ice cubes! Make your green tea as normal, let it cool and pop then

Make your green tea as normal, let it cool and pop then pour into an icecube tray and place in your freezer. Then simply massage the cube around your eyes for as long as they last and voila…you’re bright eyed and bushy tailed for round 2 or even 3! he cooling effect of the ice not only de-puffs but the caffeine element in green tea shrinks those hungover inflamed blood vessels for that added de-puffing and boost on your big girlie weekends!

DIY Powder Puff with Loo Roll!

We all know what loo roll is generally great for but we’ll not go there!

If you’re like me (and Gwyneth Paltrow), and tend to get a tad shiny after a few hours of wearing your makeup, with zero space in your clutch for powder, then a great alternative is to take a sheet of loo paper, split it in two, then use the delicate sheet and blot off any shine from your face! Works every time!

It’s also great for turning your intense lipstick into a bee-stung tint – simply blot the excess product off for a more natural lip look!

You’re Making Me Blush with Lipstick!

A post shared by Miranda (@mirandakerr) on

Forgotten your blush or want to add a flush of dewy colour to your cheeks?  There’s no better way to enhance your look than taking a smidge of your favourite lippy on your middle fingers and gently tapping and blending onto the apples of your cheeks.  This creates a gorgeous fresh yet subtle amplified flush and it tones in with your lippy like the beautiful Miranda Kerr!  This is a renowned makeup trick within the makeup artistry industry with celebs, and now it’s yours too to try out too!
