The Mrs Brown's Boys family have much to celebrate after winning Best Comedy at the National Television Awards.

The National Television Awards took place tonight in London, where local stars mixed with all the biggest names in UK and Irish showbusiness.

Irish-British sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys was awarded Best Comedy, beating a diverse mix of competition including Benidorm, Orange Is The New Black and The Big Bang Theory.

Brendan O’Carroll plays foul-mouthed matriarch Agnes Brown in the production which is very much a family affair. There are many Donegal connections to the show, as Danny O’Carroll, Brendan’s son plays Buster and his real-life wife Amanda also stars among the cast. The young family live in Donegal, and their son Jamie also plays Bono in the TV series.

Danny and Amanda shared snaps from before the ceremony of themselves spruced up for the evening – there were no funny costumes for Buster this time!

The winning show of Best Comedy was announced by comedy veteran Sir Ken Dodd, which prompted huge amounts of celebrations from the cast.

This is the fourth time that Mrs Brown’s Boys have won Best Comedy at the NTAS.

Danny O’Carroll took a moment to thank the show’s fans – before getting back to the party no doubt!

The hugely popular comedy has remained a firm favourite with TV audiences throughout the years, with the Christmas and New Year’s specials dominating viewer ratings once more in 2016.

Other Irish interests at the awards included Cork presenter Graham Norton being honoured with a Special Recognition prize for his service to public broadcasting.
