Caitlin Nic Aoidh has had an exciting year – not every TV weather presenter can say they were struck by lightning on air. Those few seconds made Caitlin a viral star back in November. She’s a native of Cloughaneely and a former teacher who now presents on TG4 and fronts her own animated chat show Caitlin Eile.

For some reason, weather presenters’ style often come under a lot of scrutiny, but Caitlin is one of many stylish young stars on the channel and brings a lot of glamour to the role. Her ensembles have been duly noted and she was nominated as the Most Stylish Newcomer in this year’s VIP Style Awards.

Here is Caitlin’s Style Study for Donegal Woman

donegal-daily-1-2How would you describe your personal style?

My style would be quite simple and relaxed. I love comfort and colours that suit me. I do love to dress up occasionally too.

Who is your style icon?

I think Olivia Palermo dresses beautifully.

What is your favourite piece of clothing?

My favourite item of clothing has a lovely story behind it. My aunt Maureen made a knitted cardigan for me. She was visiting and the house and the film ‘The Holiday’ with Cameron Diaz was on. She absolutely loved the cardigan she was wearing, when she visited the cottage in England. I downloaded the pattern for her that night. While she was doing the Camino de Santiago she searched for the nicest wool she could find and surprised me with the exact same cardigan. I love wearing it during the winter months. It means so much to me.

What inspires you when choosing an outfit?

I like quite classic pieces of clothing and I tend to stick to textures and designs that suit me. I try not to follow trends too religiously.

How would you accessorise a look?

During the winter I’ll always wear a scarf. I think I’ve toned down on accessories in the last few years. I feel less is more now! I might wear a pair of earrings and a ring, but I don’t overdo it. Over accessorising takes from the outfit in my opinion.

Only buy the item of clothing if you want to walk out of the shop in it.

What do you think of the fashion scene in Donegal?

The people of Donegal are very stylish and we’ve so many great shops so we’re spoiled for choice.

What has been your best investment piece?

I bought a black leather handbag about 3 years ago and I take it everywhere.

What is the wackiest item of clothing you own?

I have an embellished blazer. I definitely wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

If you could wear only one item for the rest of your life what would it be?

I’m not sure but I’d probably wear black from head to toe!

What has been your biggest fashion faux pas?

I once wore a sarong over a pair of jeans to the disco! My friends still slag me for it!
