Travel columnist Anna Farren describes a delightful day of R&R at the Shandon Spa.

Winter brings with it a time in which we need to be good to ourselves, a time in which we long to cosy up and escape from busy realities of daily life. With Christmas fast approaching and with it evenings out and Christmas parties, it is easy to become ‘wrapped up’ in all things festive. One sure way to unwind and relax during this busy period, is to take time to ourselves to escape to the Shandon Spa, Dunfanaghy.

Although our pockets may be feeling the pinch this December, the competitive rates and full spa experience for only €75 awaits us in the Shandon. I recently spent a day in the spa and delighted in all that the spa had to offer, from a friendly staff, unrivalled views from the outdoor hot tub and the most relaxing of treatments.

Met on arrival by a very welcoming staff, I first indulged in the thermal suite experience for 1.5 hours before retiring to the top floor to receive what the spa call a ‘Pick n Mix’ spa treatment. I opted for a mini facial and back massage and enjoyed every second. Upon completion, I was shown to the relaxation room on the top floor of Shandon Spa building. I cosied up underneath the blanket and sipped on herbal tea while delighting in taking in the breathtaking views overlooking Sheephaven Bay.

So why not take some time to yourself in the middle of this busy Christmas period and have a look here to choose your bargain spa offer today. Finish off with a prosecco over in the hotel and you’ve had a complete day of R&R – well deserved for any busy lady as a little pre-Christmas treat.
