Congratulations are in order for Letterkenny woman Nikki Bradley, who has just announced her engagement to partner Ian Parke.
Ian popped the question on Sunday, Nikki’s 36th birthday, making it a truly unforgettable weekend.
Wedding planning will be yet another adventure for Nikki, who champions adaptive fitness across Ireland and worldwide. Having survived cancer as a teen, the intensive treatment left her with permanent damage to her hip, and she has had to use crutches daily ever since. She refused to let her disability stop her from doing incredible things, and she set up the ‘Fighting Fit for Ewing’s’ campaign to show others what is possible. Her motivational speeches often recount how she defied the odds to climb glaciers in Iceland, abseil off Fanad Lighthouse and complete the infamous Fan Dance 24km march across the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons in Wales.
Nikki is set to undergo her most difficult challenge yet in 2022, when she will have her right leg amputated. Her life-changing decision was prompted by the unbearable pain she suffers in her hip every day. “It doesn’t have to be bad or depressing. It’s the next phase of my life and who knows, it could turn out to be the best yet,” Nikki told Donegal Woman.
Nikki’s social media followers have been with her through life’s ups and downs so far, but her engagement news has been warmly welcomed by them all.
