The community of Moville has come together to fundraise for a poignant memorial for the late John, Tomás and Amelia Mullan, who passed away in a tragic car accident last month.

A GoFundMe campaign is underway to fund a memorial bench dedicated to the beloved family.

It is hoped that the bench would be placed along the shoreline in Moville, which was a place that the family loved to visit, walk and play.

Tragedy struck the Mullan family on August 20th when John (49), and children Tomás (14) and Amelia (6) lost their lives when their car went off the road at Quigley’s Point. Mum and wife Geraldine Mullan was the sole survivor.

Mrs Mullan’s heartbreaking loss has moved the local community to donate in their hundreds to honour John, Tomás and Amelia’s lives. More than €7,100 has already been raised in one day to fund the memorial bench. Any funds that are left over will be given to charity as per Geraldine’s wishes, according to the fund organisers Annette O’Brien and Elizabeth Chisholm.

Annette wrote: “Any of us that know Geraldine personally, whether that be family, friend or colleague, know that she has the biggest heart, is the most generous, loving person and has helped so many people over the years, be that personally or in her professional capacity, as an Oncology Nurse in Letterkenny Hospital.

“To honor the memory of John, Tomás and Amelia, I have started this “Go Fund Me” to help raise money to place a bench dedicated to these 3 beautiful souls along the shoreline in Moville, where John and Geraldine would go for walks and Tomás and Amelia would play on the shore.
