This inspirational post from gym owner Emmet Rushe shares small changes we can make to think more positively and achieve our goals.

This is the first part of a two-part blog on the 12 things that positive people don’t do or let keep them from their goals.

There is so much negativity around right now with the current situation, but we don’t have to let it run our lives.

We always keep things positive in our gym in Letterkenny and in our online coaching as it helps everyone to get better results and they also get to train in a positive and welcoming environment.

These are six things that we can do to be more positive and to help keep us focused on our goals.

It doesn’t matter what your goals are in life, these will help you to stay on track.

  1. They don’t waste time feeling sorry for themselves

While we all can feel sorry for ourselves from time to time depending on the situation we are in self pity is destructive and creates negative feelings and thoughts.

Try to practice gratitude on a daily basis, so you can focus on the positive things in your life.
  2. They don’t focus on the things they cannot control.

You cannot control everything in your life. Trying to could even end up causing you more stress and anxiety.

Instead, put your focus into the things you can control and you can deal with anything else that may arise along the way.
  3. They don’t dwell on the past.

The past is the past and you cannot change it. Dwelling on it can cause feelings of resent and could lead to depression.

Put your focus onto the present and what you want to achieve in the future. Use the past as a tool to learn from your mistakes and move on from it.
  4. They maintain a strong grip on their time and energy.

In life, you will meet people who are not on the same path as you are.

It does not matter what the situation is, there are people who will be a drain on your mental, physical and emotional energy.

You need to stand up for yourself to people like this and cut them out of your life.

While it may seem harsh to think about this, these people will do everything they can to keep you from moving forward with your goals and life and will be a constant drain on you.
  5. They don’t try to please everyone around them.

Judging yourself based on what others may think of you is a great way to kill your self confidence.

Social media has ramped up these type of feelings in people as many try to emulate the people they follow in the hopes of being more ‘liked’ online.

You won’t EVER be able to please everyone around you.

You are better putting your focus into keeping yourself happy and focusing on the positive things around you and in your life.

You will be happier and more confident if you do.
  6. They don’t shy away from change.

We all get comfortable in our surroundings and don’t really want things to change.

It doesn’t matter if it’s weight loss, changing jobs, moving house, change of any sort is hard as it takes you away from your current situation.

But, the only way to progress and move forward in your life is to constantly be making small progressive changes that take you towards your goal.

Don’t be afraid of change, it could be the best thing you ever do.

Take a look at the list above and see what you can work on to help move you forward towards your goals and help to remove negativity from your life.

I will post the next 6 in next week’s blog.
