A Killybegs artist is offering up one of her own paintings for a fundraiser to support Killybegs Community Hospital.

Award-winning artist Alva Gallagher wanted to contribute to the Covid-19 response from home, so she decided to help others do the same through GoFundMe.

Alva is set to give away one of her original paintings to one lucky person who makes a donation to the fund. The draw has already raised three times the original target and now has over €2,380 in donations.

Ice Floe by Alva Gallagher

Alva was inspired to help her local hospital to directly support frontline staff and patient care during Covid-19.

She said: “I think everyone wants to help at a time like this especially with the amazing work our frontline health workers are doing at the sacrifice of their own health

“Being in lockdown and working from home this method is what is available to be able to contribute with still adhering to government distancing guidelines.

“Killybegs is also my hometown and a community that is incredibly and uniquely supportive of each other in hard times and the front line staff and health workers at the hospital, as in all hospitals, are working tirelessly to combat this virus.”

The painting available to win is titled ‘Ice Floe’ and is an original oil and mixed media on canvas.

This original painting ‘Ice Floe’ is part of a series of aerial studies dealing with the beauty that can be found in places of isolation as currently featured in the Spring edition of Irish Arts Review (https://www.irishartsreview.com/tidal-force/)
