Two Donegal women have come up with a unique idea to celebrate amazing mammies this weekend.

It has certainly been a difficult time for everyone and even more so for the many families who are now home schooling, dealing with childcare issues and generally learning a new existence in family life.

With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, Evelyn Mc Glynn and Meg O’Gara, bloggers on donegalmammy.com and the duo behind The Mammy Handbook, have come up with a unique idea to celebrate all Donegal Mammies this weekend.

The Donegal Mammy Awards!

The awards were something they had discussed in the past, but when engaging with their mammy followers on their Donegal Mammy social media accounts, they felt that there was now a great need to celebrate all mammy in the county.

This Sunday will not be the normal family celebration with families and grandparents gathering together – loneliness and isolation adding to the emotions of what everyone is already feeling, but it is hoped that the Donegal Mammy Awards will add some occasion to the day.

Coming together while being apart.

The virtual, online celebration and awards will give everyone the opportunity to celebrate the many roles Donegal Mammy has, especially in this difficult time.

Award winning Donegal retailer McElhinneys, have sponsored the overall Donegal Mammy Award and local businesses, Shane Connolly Cars, Home Instead Senior Care, Yes Chef Catering, Waterfront Hotel, OURganic Gardens, Seclusion Spa,  Evelyn Mc Marketing, Karen Murphy Communications, Rushe Fitness, Beaus & Belles Photography and Stitch It Bernie have all come onboard to sponsor the Donegal Mammy Awards in their categories. Many more will be added in the next few days, so get in touch with Meg or Evelyn if your business would like to be added to the list of award sponsors.

The awards categories range from the overall award for Donegal Mammy of The Year, Donegal Mammy Culinary Award, Carer Award, Business Women of The Year Award, Empty Nest Award and awards in driving, gardening, community, communicating, creativity and even a Donegal Mammy Award for dealing with teenagers!

They haven’t forgotten Granny as she gets her very own award in there – the Donegal Granny Award. There will be lots more great prizes and award categories added in the next few days.

So, how do you nominate your Mammy/Granny and what are the categories?

Visit http://bit.ly/mammyawards at www.donegalmammy.com and fill out the nomination form with all your details.

You can choose one or all of the many categories you think she should win and tell us how amazing your Mammy/Granny is.

On Sunday organisers will ask everyone to share photos and video on Donegal Mammy on social media and use the hashtag #donegalmammyawards.

If Evelyn and Meg could deliver The Mammy Handbook in just 30 days, they will have no problem in delivering this fabulous Donegal Mammy celebration in just a matter of days! For further details contact Meg or Evelyn at donegalmammy@gmail.com or call 087 2246989
