Christina McBarron

A Donegal woman is sculpting her career in the beauty world of Bahrain.

And she’s loving the luxury and vibrancy of the kingdom.

Christina McBarron from Donegal Town has been a makeup artist for 10 years, perfecting her skills in the London beauty houses of Harrods and Selfridges.

She was working for Tom Ford in Harrods when she met her husband, and they recently relocated back to his homeland in Bahrain.

“Life in the Middle East is HOT!,” Christina told DW. “It’s an amazing place to live with a wonderful melting pot of cultures from all over the world.”

Christina has enjoyed using her versatile skills in the Middle East and has had some very high-profile clients.

“I’m lucky enough and fortunate enough to work with members of the royal family and Middle Eastern superstars,” she said.

“I have also provided makeup for female DJs who are flown in from all over the world to play here in Bahrain. Venues such as the Jumeirah Royal Saray Hotel and the Ritz Carlton are a usual location for me to do makeup.”

In Ireland we love our highlighter, lashes and brows, but is it the same style in Bahrain?

Christina says she enjoys adapting to all skin tones and preferences:

“The makeup style in the Middle East is very dramatic and bold compared to a more soft natural look the European clients prefer.”

Christina’s career is growing naturally with a lot of word of mouth, and she is starting to gain attention through her Instagram profile.

“The community is small here as the island is tiny. Thank God my reputation precedes me for all the right reasons,” she said.
