Letterkenny gym owner Emmet Rushe sets a new healthy eating challenge with one simple rule.

Convenience has become part of our lives.

I have written before about how impatience can be costing us our goals when it comes to our health and fitness.

This also carries over to our nutrition and can be one of the main reasons for our lack of progress and our frustration when it comes to our goals.

We are seeing more and more convenience foods dressed up and disguised as ‘health foods’.

Pre-packaged foods that look very appealing, are pre-cooked so they can be microwaved or cooked with minimal effort and all claim on their packaging to be ‘healthy’ or ‘real’ and will tell you that they are great for weight loss.

It is no surprise that there has been a huge spike in the sales of these foods as more and more people turn to them, thinking that they are a better solution.

But, there is already a solution.

It has been there all along.

It costs less per serving than any of these pre-packaged foods.

They can absolutely help with your health, fitness and weight loss goals.

It is the basis of this week’s challenge.

It is REAL FOOD!

What I mean by this is;

Real, single ingredient food, with nothing added to it, no preservatives, no colourings, no flavourings, not pre-made and you have to actually prepare and cook it yourself.

That last part will be the EndGame for many reading this, and that is why they will ALWAYS struggle with their goals.

When it comes to weight loss, YOU need to control as many of the variables of your nutrition as you can.

The more you allow others to have control, by buying pre-packaged ready made convenience foods or eating from delis or carveries etc, the less chance you have for success.

Unless you are tracking EVERYTHING you eat and drink, on an app like My Fitness pal, you have no idea on what you are taking in and in what amounts when you are eating convenience foods.

But, if you are preparing the foods yourselves and you are adding flavourings through salt, peppers, spices and lower calories sauces like passata etc, you have more control of what you are eating and you will also know how much you are eating.

When it comes to weight loss;

You must control the controllables!

If you don’t, your chances of success instantly reduce.

So, your challenge for this week is to JUST EAT REAL FOOD and the rules are simple.

When you are buying the food, all you have to do is make sure that the food is either un-packaged or if it is in packaging the ingredients should have 1 ingredient.

E.G pre-packaged chicken breasts should have 100% chicken breast as the ingredients and nothing else.

If it has other ingredients, you don’t buy it.

Make sure there is plenty of colour and flavour though it when you are cooking, so you actually enjoy the taste of it and this will also prevent you from getting bored.

Also, if your immediate thought is that eating healthy like this costs more money, it doesn’t.

  1. You can batch cook large meals and they will do more than 1 lunch or dinner throughout the week.
  2. You are saving money by not having to turn to weight loss products.

So, there you have it.

If you want real results that will help you to get in shape, get healthier and lose some weight, this challenge is a great place to start.
