We check out the beautiful and bizarre looks from the celebrity spectacle.

The Met Gala is one of the biggest fashion events for celebrities to branch out and wear the most outlandish costumes they can imagine. The Met Gala is a fundraiser that is for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Insititute in New York.

Each year for the Met Gala there is a theme that celebrities, ranging from actors, musicians, athletes and models, follow where they style their outfit according to that theme.

The themes are widely out there and the celebrities run away with it and try to be as creative as they can. In the following years of the Met Gala, the themes have been nothing short of bizarre as last years theme was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’. Celebrities came out wearing objects and artefacts from the Vatican to put with their outfit to display the fashion side along with highlighting the Catholic religion.

Other years themes were ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’, ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’, ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ and many more.

This years theme was ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ which drew on Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on Camp’, which symbolises a liberal outlook on homosexuality, politics and society. Many people do not fully understand the theme but they try to capture what they think it means through fashion.

As there are many high-class people at the Met Gala there are always some that stand out more compared to others based on their outfits looking quite crazy and also outfits that are stylish yet cool.

This year Katy Perry stunned people with her choice of displaying the theme as she walked up to the museum dressed as a chandelier. The outfit lit up and was designed by Jeremy Scott for Moschino. Her dress weighed 40lbs and had a matching headpiece.

Irish actress, Saoirse Ronan was also at the event and her dress was by Gucci that sported gold dragons on her shoulders along with the red, green and silver tones of the dress.

The men also made a bold stamp on their interpretation of the theme especially Ezra Miller. He decided to go for a mask outfit that gave off the idea of an optical illusion. His outfit was made by Burberry and when he took down his mask he revealed five eyes face paint as it made him look like he had seven eyes.

This look sent everyone wild as it was so different and oddly weird that many people believe that Miller understood the theme the best out of everyone and stole the show.

Darren Criss also had a good take on the theme as he wore a jewelled blazer by Balmain that trailed down to his knees. He also wore bright blue eye shadow that winged out past his eyes and finished off with one line of lipstick down the centre of his bottom lip.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas did not disappoint as they both showed up and blew everyone away. Priyanka wore a silver gown with feathers that ranged in colour from light pink to yellow to dark pink and she topped it off with silver frosted eyebrows, white eyeliner, a dark lip and a silver crown. Nick Jonas stuck by her side in a white Dior suit and also sported a moustache in which both gave off a fairytale look as their take on the ‘Camp’ theme.

Zendaya was also up there with how far she was willing to go for the theme and dazzle the crowd. She also followed Priyanka and Nick on the fairytale feel as she wore a Cinderella gown by Tommy Hilfiger. Law Roach, a stylist, dressed as Zendaya’s fairy godmother and with a few sways of his wand her dress lit up from head to toe. It was truly like a fairytale in which Zendaya and Tommy Hilfiger conveyed very well.

These are just some of the outfits that truly stole the show at the 2019 Met Gala. The high-class society of celebrities that attended were all out in full force to show off their amazing and crazy outfits and will be sure to come back even bigger and better next year.
