In an introduction to her next Minding Me Wellness Workshop, Counsellor Sarah Barr reveals how self-care and CBT can help with stress, anxiety and overall wellness.

‘Minding Me’ is all about minding yourself.

The 5 week wellness workshop will focus on learning and developing self-care practices and CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) techniques.
This workshop is delivered by a qualified and practising counsellor.

Self-care is probably something most of us don’t really give much thought to, never mind dedicating any time for.

We tend to focus our care on the needs of our family and friends.

Yet if we don’t take proper care of ourselves we will ultimately limit our energy and resources, which is needed to care for our loved ones.

Self-Care is still a bit of an alien concept, it is tinged with guilt. The guilt of being selfish, the guilt of focusing on yourself.

But remember:

I think self-care is all about developing the tools and techniques that will help you to move forward in your life and achieve your goals, whilst taking care of yourself amidst all the stress and anxiety.
Self-Care teaches you to become more self-aware, confident and true to who you are. Not the person others think you should be.

Once you start to understand and challenge who you really are, your belief system, your thinking patterns, your triggers and your goals.

Then you can start to develop new behavioural habits, positive thinking patterns and slowly start to step out of your comfort zone with confidence.

CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) is an approach that anyone can learn, to cope better with stress, anxiety, fear, anger and low mood.

The Minding Me Wellness Workshop, will show how our thoughts, our emotions, our behaviours and our physical reactions all interact and reflect off each other.

CBT helps us to understand and change our thoughts and behaviours which can be helpful when dealing with stresses and challenges of life.

CBT helps you discover the thought patterns that trigger fight/flight/freeze response and gives you the tools to manage this.

‘Minding Me’ is a 5 week wellness workshop.
This CBT based workshop is open to anyone over the age of 18.
It follows on from the ‘Minding Mammy’ workshop.
Starting 1st April, at the Greencastle Community Centre, in Greencastle Co.Donegal.
