Sharon Hearty, based in Donegal Town, has more than 25 years of experience in marketing communications and business development.

After many years in corporate and non-profit in the UK, she is on a mission to inspire women in leadership and in business to build and protect a strong personal brand.

Here, Sharon gives a guide to improving your business in two phases:

Kickstart with the power of three (Part 1)

  1. What do I stop doing that didn’t serve my business well in 2018?
  2. What will I start doing that will serve me have a stronger business in 2019?
  3. What do I need to carry over into 2019 that worked?

This is a simple but extremely useful sense check as you look back on how you did business in 2018.

When was the last time you took a step back to analyse your year in business?

It offers you a practical approach to weigh things up and ask yourself, ‘how did I do’. It is important critical thinking. But if we follow only this we may just fall short of surfacing the real power behind success – fulfilment in what we do and how we do it.

Truth be told we are more than the doing, more than the critical thinking, reviewing and planning ahead.

So let’s kick start with the power of three (part II)

  1. How am I feeling about my year in business in 2018?
  2. Did I make the difference I wanted to make through what I do.
  3. What will I carry over from 2018 and build upon?

Reviewing and planning ahead for your business can be a challenge when we are juggling so many other demands in life. I hope the power of three offers you a simple and fresh way to look back, look in and look forward.

Who you are is your greatest asset in leading your business forward. You’ve no competition, there is no one like you who does things the way you do. Be where your market is, make your presence so special and valuable for your customers/clients that they can’t help talking about you and your business to others. Focus on building value, a personal experience and let the competition take care of themselves.
