Newtowncunningham woman Vanessa Donohoe has made another big step in her recovery after being taken out of intensive care in a Barcelona Hospital.

Vanessa was taken out of ICU for the first time in seven weeks and is back on a hospital ward.

Vanessa took ill on a family holiday at the start of June and underwent a number of brain surgeries.

A major fundraising campaign was launched, which has raised almost €15,000.

A message on the Vanessa Donohoe Fundraising Campaign’s Facebook page said: “The family would like to thank you for all your well wishes, and your prayers, they are hoping you will all keep your prayers going as Vanessa has a long road of recovery ahead, the news coming from Spain is all very positive today, the family are all delighted!”

Vanessa’s sudden illness in Spain was an immense shock to all the family and came with a huge financial cost.

The kind-hearted community of Newtowncunningham and beyond have come together to help cover her medical bills and support her husband PJ during her illness.

A fundraising target on GoFundMe has been set at €25,000. Almost 400 donations in the past 9 days have brought the total to €14,905. If you would like to donate, please click here: https://www.gofundme.com/5o57xa8
