Kindred spirits will be delighted to see Anne with an E season 2 launching on Netflix.

We’ll be going back to the Green Gables soon as an expanded ten episode run of ‘Anne with an E’ is released in full this Friday, 6th July.

Donegal actress Amybeth McNulty (16) leads the strong cast of the uplifting period drama. Amybeth, who grew up in Milford and is of Irish-Canadian descent, has received much critical acclaim for her role as the plucky orphan Anne.

Amybeth shines as the fierce, starry-eyed, irrepressible 14-year-old protagonist. The friendships, adventures, romance and dark themes are all tackled wonderfully for audiences young and old.

Amybeth dedicates her role to her great-grandmother, whose upbringing bore similarities with the character of the timeless Canadian novel ”Anne of Green Gables”.

“My great grandmother, Martha, was hired at 11 years old to be a worker to people. I dedicate the role to her because it definitely chimes in on some of the things that she would gone through,” Amybeth told the Irish Mirror.

The second series of Anne will continue to chart bold new territory, adding new characters and storylines while further exploring themes of identity, prejudice, feminism, bullying, gender parity and empowerment.

The coming-of-age drama has won many awards in Canada and the US, with Amybeth earning a Best Lead Actress nomination in the Canadian Screen Awards 2018. The show was also voted one of the Top 10 best shows to watch with your family on Netflix. Now, Anne with an E is up for a Teen Choice Awards as Choice Breakout TV Show.
