Letterkenny Photographer Fergal Megannety discovered some very interesting links between two couples he photographed over the Easter weekend.
Fergal photographed two pairs of newlyweds in Donegal last week and quickly realised the bridal parties were very familiar – he had photographed both brides’ parents many years ago!
It was a surprise which led to two special moments for Fergal and the families. He had the unique opportunity to capture two of the biggest days for both families to remember forever. No doubt he’d remember the mother of the brides’ good sides too!
The first familiar family was that of Jennie Boyd’s. Jennie, who is living in Dublin, was in for a shock when she booked Fergal Megannety for her wedding photography in Donegal
When Jennie told her parents, Lesley and David Boyd that she had booked Fergal they told her that he had also photographed their wedding 39 years ago.
David Boyd from Bunbeg married Lesley in Greystones Co. Wicklow in 1979, Fergal was living there before he moved to Letterkenny in 1981.
This was something Fergal had never expected when the booking was made. “I was very surprised, especially when Jennie booked me as her parents’ wedding was so long ago. It was so nice to meet her parents after all these years and theirs was one of my first weddings,” Fergal told Donegal Woman.
On Easter Monday, Fergal photographed the wedding of Roisin Boyle in Kincasslagh, Fergal had photographed Roisin’s parents Helena and Kevin Boyle who live in Sutton Coldfield. Helena and Kevin were also married there 27 years ago.
Even more curious links!
Fergal revealed to Donegal Woman that he also photographed Roisin’s aunt’s wedding. He knows the family well, as Roisin’s grandparents Paddy and Bridit Focker from Cruit Island have invited him down many times to photograph family occasions over the years.
There were two more coincidences from the weekend weddings: Kevin Boyle’s sister Pauline Boyle who runs the Serenity Salon at an Chuirt, did the makeup for the Saturday wedding and both wedding receptions were held at An Chuirt Hotel in Gweedore. Only in Donegal!
Thanks to Fergal Megannety for sharing this story of many funny twists!
