An inspirational Raphoe woman has raised €4,520 for charity after celebrating her birthday in a remarkable way.

Louise Goudie from Raphoe marked her 28th birthday earlier this month with a unique challenge of running 2.8km each hour for a 24-hour period.

After successfully completing the gruelling 67.2km run, Louise was amazed to smash her fundraising target thanks to over 200 donations.

All the money raised will go towards Donegal Domestic Violence Services and The Hope Centre, Derry.

Louise Goudie’s 28th Birthday Challenge

Louise issued a message this week to thank everyone who supported her ‘crazy idea’ and made donations to the causes.

“Thank you so much, you have no idea how much it means to them,” Louise said.

“People were thanking me but all I had to do is run and not fall asleep. It was the 200+ people who donated that we need to thank.”

Louise said the generous response to her challenge shows we can never underestimate the power of giving. Those who donated said their €5 and €10 donations weren’t much, but Louise pointed out how every small amount adds to a big total: “It’s what’s going to put food on people’s tables in the coming days and weeks and months and it’s what’s going to provide support for women and children who are in abusive relationships and it’s going to provide them with a safe place and get them accommodation.”
