This week, Emmet from Rushe Fitness gym has top ideas to keep your mind healthy.

This week’s challenge is AS important as all the others we have done this year.

One of the best things you can do for your health is being active and eating a healthy diet.

The same rules apply for your mental health and your brain.

As we age, our brains need stimulation in order to stay healthy and to remain sharp and active.

Studies have shown that people who have the fewest problems with brain-related aging disorders (like dementia or Alzheimer’s) also engage in activities that mentally challenge them.
So, this week we are going to put our focus on our mental health and do some activities that will exercise our minds.

While most may immediatly think about Sudoku or crossword puzzles as their go to for stimulating thier minds, we have so much more we can do to give us a wide range of activities.

For our mental stimulation, it is no different to our physical or even our dietary stimulation.
If you always ate the same food every day, you would soon get bored.
If you always did the same exercise you would soon get bored of the same routine.

So, when it come to stimulating the mind, don’t just do the same thing over and over.

We have 3 different ways that we can stimulate our minds in order to get the best benefits.

  • Intellectual Stimulation
  • Physical Stimulation
  • Social Interaction

So, while doing crosswords or Soduku are great to begin with, adding in other activities will give you wider ranging benefits.

Choose things that you can do with friends like;

  • Chess
  • Draughts
  • Scrabble
  • Bridge
  • Card games
  • Board Games

Most of these have online versions that you can play with friends if meeting up on a regular basis is difficult due to time constraints. (Although meeting up is the preferred option).

Other activities that can prove beneficial are;

  • Playing or learning a musical instrument
  • Taking a dance class or dance lesson
  • An exercise class
  • Learning a new language
  • Paying video games (like world of warcraft)
  • Gardening
  • Going to a museme or art gallery
  • Socialising with family and friends
  • Going hiking or on scenic walks

The options are endless for what you can do and the more interactive and stimulating you can make things, the better benefits you will get.

So, what is it to be?

What will be your preferred choice of mental stimulation to boost your brain and to keep your mind healthy?

Be sure to let us know what you will be doing.
