Well-known Donegal milliner John Hanna has passed away.

Mr Hanna, the Managing Director of the famous Hanna Hats in Donegal Town, passed away peacefully at the Beacon Hospital in Dublin.

He was surrounded by his loving family including his wife Mary, daughters Amanda Jane, Eleanor and Bernadette and his son John Patrick.

Mr Hanna was the second generation of the Hanna Hats company. Based in Donegal Town, the brand dates back almost 100 years.

David Hanna Snr established a tailoring company in Donegal in 1924. He began handcrafting bespoke headwear in 1964, and so Hanna Hats was born.

David’s son John continued creating innovative tweed products using the age-old tradition of craftsmanship. John’s children Eleanor and Amanda-Jane now carry their father and grandfather’s vision as a third generation family business.

The late Mr Hanna’s family posted a touching message on the company’s Facebook Page last night.

It reads “It’s with a very heavy heart that we the Hanna family must say goodbye to our Dad, John Hanna our best friend, husband, father & Grandfather. Dad sadly passed away early this morning.

“He touched so many lives & brought so much joy & laughter. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.”

John’s remains will be reposing at his late residence today (Wed) from 1pm until 10pm and on Thursday 16th May from 1pm until 10pm.

Removal from there on Friday morning to St. Mary’s Church, Killymard for 11am funeral Mass, with burial afterwards in Clar Cemetery.

May he rest in peace.
