US actress Sarah Jessica Parker swapped the bright lights of New York city for quiet Kilcar this Christmas and New Year.
The ‘Sex and the City’ star escaped to Donegal to enjoy the holidays with her actor husband Matthew Broderick and their children.
The celebrity couple had a newly-renovated holiday home to return to this Christmas, following an extensive building project on the family cottage.
SJP checked into Instagram yesterday to wish her 5 million followers a happy new year – once she got a wifi signal that is!
As always, she had some poetic words to say about her home from home in Donegal:
“Happy new year from a remote but beautiful land far away where wifi often eludes us but 2019 will not,” Sarah Jessica wrote.
“Best to one and all in this coming year for good health, adventure, time with loved ones, patience, humor, perseverance, joy, good love and good loving.”
She also shared a video of the cloudy Kilcar coastline view from her cottage:
Serene Donegal is a highly-contrasting scene from the life SJP is used to, between preparing for a new season of HBO comedy Divorce, opening her own shoe store in Manhattan and moderating Michelle Obama’s “Becoming” book tour in New York before the trip.
Sarah and Matthew created a lot of buzz in South Donegal at the end of December when they were spotted doing their groceries in Supervalu Killybegs and shopping in Elvery’s Sports Store Donegal Town.
The couple regularly visit Donegal where Broderick’s parents bought a home overlooking Donegal Bay more than 40 years ago.
In Summer 2018, SJP wrote a love letter to Kilcar celebrating all she loves about Ireland:

Farewell sultry and fickle skies Farewell plumes of smoke from chimneys Farewell ranges emitting the earthy and welcoming smell of turf Farewell chips and tweed and open smiles Farewell "marked bags", lamb cutlets and kerrygold Farewell to the most perfect spuds in all the world. Flowery or waxy. I will miss you most of all. X,SJ
