We have a sun-soaked weekend to look forward to before temperatures reach their warmest yet for 2018.

The best weather of the summer so far has been predicted next week.

BBQs, sunscreen and sandals are in order from Saturday onwards, and forecasters have hinted at a possibility of a real heatwave.

The ‘exam-period weather’ we saw at the beginning of the month brought highs of up to 26C to Donegal. Next week however, temperatures of 27C and higher have been forecast for the country.

This week’s rain and cool nights will clear for dry and sunny days. “Temperatures will rise considerably from this weekend. Very warm or even hot conditions developing into next week with plenty of sunshine,” said Met Eireann.

“It will be warmer and sunnier with every day getting warmer and sunnier,” Met Eireann’s Joanne Donnelly told Independent.ie.

“The outlook range doesn’t allow us to predict a heatwave as yet but the potential is there,” she said.

For those who have decided to take a few days of work next week, count yourself lucky as the hottest spell of the year looks destined to hit Donegal!

How will you enjoy the sunshine this weekend?
