Loreto Letterkenny student and part-time Barista Sophie Devlin will follow in the footsteps of Buncrana model Lauren McDonagh and go forward to compete in the Miss Ireland pageant.

Nine young women from across Donegal took part in the Miss Donegal selection night at Dillon’s Hotel Letterkenny on Friday night. DJ Marty Friel was compere for the lively event with many friends and family out to support their finalists.

Judges Aoibheann Walsh, Shona Tinneny, Richie Remo, Nicola McLaughlin, Lauren Mc Donagh and Mark McCrossan were on the lookout for a winner with confidence, personality and poise.

They ultimately decided on Sophie as the most impressive finalist to represent her home county. There were many celebrations as the reigning Miss Ireland Lauren McDonagh presented Sophie with her new crown.

Lauren won the Miss Ireland crown in 2017 and proudly championed her country in the international Miss World finals in China.

There will no doubt be great celebrations at the Honeypot coffee house following Sophie’s victory. Ahead of the final, the team at her workplace said: “In our eyes Sophie is a natural winner; Sophie has all the qualities and many more that are needed to represent Donegal regionally and nationally.”

“Sophie’s a great ambassador for our county she excels on so many levels.”
