A woman in Waterford has died in the first fatal tragedy of Storm Ophelia.

The woman, who is reported to be in her 70s, died when a tree fell and crushed her car near the village of Aglish, Co. Waterford.

The woman was the sole occupant of the car. It has been confirmed that she died at the scene.

A status red wind warning remains in place across the entire country.

Falling trees are reported throughout the south of Ireland. Fallen power lines have led to power outages in up to 200,000 homes.

The public are being urged to stay indoors, stay away from coasts and avoid travel when the storm is passing areas.
