A chorus call is out for singers and dancers for Singin' in the Rain - would you like to tap along?

Letterkenny Musical Society’s 2018 production at An Grianan Theatre will be “Singin’ in the Rain” – the musical inspired by the 1952 film starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.

Most of the main roles have been cast, and now it’s time for the chorus to get together and prepare for one of the most challenging shows LMS has done in recent years.

The show centres on the transition from silent movies to talking pictures. Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are the star couple, but while Don can make the transition without any difficulty, it transpires that Lina’s speaking voice and singing style do not match her looks.

A radical solution must be found, and as is always the case in musicals and movies, that solution sets off a chain of events which unfolds and resolves itself in a kaleidoscope of comedy, music and dancing. Lots and lots of dancing!

The first chorus meeting takes place in St Bernadette’s School on College Farm Road on Wednesday week next, September 13th. The production team are particularly looking for dancers, and there will be a certain element of planning the chorus placing around dancing.

Be prepared to work ; this is not just a matter of a box step and some rudimentary moves!

The other thing LMS is emphasising this year is that there is a very strict over 16 limit, which will be rigidly enforced.

The show is being produced by Noel O’Donnell and directed by Donal Kavanagh. Mark Bradley is Musical Director, and Rebecca Thompson is choreographer, possibly the most difficult job of all with this show.

As ever, LMS welcomes return members and looks forward to meeting new friends. If anyone has any enquiries, please email letterkennymusicalsociety@gmail.com
