Nigel Robinson from Nottingham died after falling from a rock crag while walking through the Derryveagh Mountains last weekend.

He had last been seen on Thursday and a massive search involving the Donegal Mountain Rescue and several other teams finally located Nigel’s body on Sunday evening just after 6pm.

Nigel, or Yorkie as he was known to friends, lived in England but was a regular visitor to Donegal where he had a holiday home in Dungloe.

His wife Pat has thanked all those who searched for her husband. She said she was especially comforted to know that Nigel did not suffer.

She told Donegal Daily “Thank you so much for your efforts in searching for my husband Nigel Robinson (known by other climbers as ‘Yorkie’) whose body was eventually located.

“I heard from the police what an amazing effort you made and it certainly wasn’t an easy search. I believe from the autopsy he didn’t suffer and his death would have been instant which is a comfort to myself and our son Tom. He was much loved by friends and family.”

Mrs Robinson also thanked local climber Iain Miller who helped rescuers locate Nigel’s remains and also Gardai.

“I also thought the police involved were so calm and kind when they spoke to me on the telephone… and kept me fully updated throughout the search. Everybody has been so kind.

“We are now organising the repatriation of Nigel’s body to UK,” added Pat.

As a thank you, she is asking friends not to send flowers to Nigel’s funeral but to make donations to Donegal Mountain Rescue.

She added “Thank you so much for the wonderful work you do.”
