A new project has been launched to help support local women as they return to the world of work.

Donegal-based employment and learning organisation People 1st have launched  WISE – Women’s Integration, Skills & Employment –, a 3-year project funded by the European Social Fund which is designed to promote social inclusion and combat discrimination in the labour market.

WISE is a free programme open to women of all ages who have the potential, and the desire, to play a more active role in the labour force. The objective of the activity is to support those women who are currently detached from the labour market, (neither employed nor unemployed) in order to assist their return to the labour market.

The purpose of WISE is to increase women’s overall participation in the labour market, offering women increased economic independence and decreasing their risk of poverty in older years, a condition associated with detachment from employment.

The company advising on WISE are People 1st, who have established offices in Letterkenny, Buncrana and Dungloe, coupled with outreach locations across Donegal.

People 1st is an award winning employment and learning organisation.  Employing 30 staff, they work with a wide number of associates and partner organisations, providing vocational, employability programmes, corporate training, and consultancy services in Donegal and further afield.
