Kilcar woman Laura Byrne's blog has been nominated for two awards in the 2017 Irish Beauty Blog Awards.

Laura will be competing against Ireland’s biggest influencers in her categories – Best Newcomer and Best Beauty Blog.

Since setting up Queen Bee in June 2015, Laura has learned how hard work and perseverance are necessary to building a successful blog.

While blogging on the side, the 22-year-old has a ‘high-flying’ job working in a Kilcar carpet weaving factory providing textiles for airlines all over the world. Laura also loves to work in her family-run pub, John Joe’s in Kilcar.

Laura’s Queen Bee blog is an outlet for her passion for makeup products. She shares beauty hauls, makeup tips and tricks and the site has led her to work with top beauty brands.

To be counted in the longlist of the Irish Beauty Blog Awards has been a great highlight as she realised how her dedication has paid off.

Speaking to Donegal Woman this week, Laura said: “I created Queen Bee as a space where I can share my love of makeup with fellow makeup lovers and spread insights into my ever growing makeup collection.

“After creating this blog I now know that the following words “you’ll never know what you’re capable of until you take that first step and go for it” are really truthful as you won’t find out what’s to come in your future unless you really try hard and persevere.

“Being nominated for the Irish beauty blog awards was a total shock I didn’t expect it what so ever but it was a pleasant shock!

“I’m so grateful and lucky to be nominated. My family, friends and members of the community have been really supportive on this topic and I look forward to hopefully attending the awards night in Dublin.”

Laura also includes family and friends on the blog as she shares photos of makeup looks she creates on herself, friends and her sister Aimée Byrne who’s a young entrepreneur at Milseog na Mara.

Keeping linked in with the blogosphere is a largely virtual job, but also takes extra effort as many bloggers gather in Dublin.

“Being a blogger in such a rural part of Donegal has its struggles but you have to work that little bit harder if it’s really worth it you will. A vast majority of bloggers are Dublin based but I do enjoy traveling to Dublin attending events and hitting the beauty counters to look for new products for experimentation.

“A few weeks back I attended The Blogger Conference it was such a great experience to listen and see long time bloggers sharing their insight to the blogging world.”

Laura has seen Queen Bee growing significantly in the past year, which she puts down to hard work and the support of fellow bloggers. She is already planning ahead for the reign of Queen Bee.

“I enjoy connecting with them through twitter chats such as the #IrishBeautyHour and #DonegalHour. My blog is constantly growing and I’m always focusing on my next move as I like to keep up to date with the latest beauty trends.”
