Donegal hero Michael Murphy is making a call for volunteers on Wish Day in aid of the Make-A-Wish children's charity on March 31st.

Make-A-Wish Ireland made six lifetime memories for sick children and their families in Donegal last year. They need just 25 local volunteers on 31st March to continue this work.

Twenty-five local volunteers are needed in Donegal on Wish Day, which takes place on Friday, 31st March to celebrate and support the work of Make-A-Wish Ireland.

Donegal GAA star Michael Murphy has thrown his support behind the cause, saying “Make-A-Wish really makes a difference to the lives of sick children and their families in Donegal and Wish Day is great way to get involved in supporting them.”

Volunteers are simply asked to give a few hours of their time to sell wristbands and badges for €2 each in their local area.

Make-A-Wish is funded entirely through donations and fundraising. To support the ongoing happiness they give to children and their families from Donegal and throughout Ireland, Make-A-Wish needs the help of volunteers in Donegal to continue their important work.

Reaching goals

Local Coordinator Chris Frize said: “Last year we had such a successful day and a great turn out and support from our local volunteers and schools that we reached a goal of €1800 on the day.

“This year we hope to exceed that amount, but that will only be possible with the help of our volunteers. We would urge anyone who can spare a few hours on March 31st to contact us now and sign up to help this amazing cause.”

Irene Timmins, Head of Fundraising for Make-A-Wish, said: “Last year in Donegal we were able to make memories for 6 brave local children and their families. The value of these memories is truly immeasurable. Make-A-Wish offers positivity in an extremely dark and anxious time. Every child deserves that.

“We are approaching our 2,000th wish for Irish kids which would not be possible without our volunteers. All we are asking is a few hours from the people of Donegal on Friday 31st March to sell some of our wish bands and badges, which cost €2 each, with 100% of proceeds going to Make-A-Wish.

“Wishes make memories that last many lifetimes, but we cannot make them without our volunteers.”

Wish Day will take place across Ireland on 31st March and Make-A-Wish volunteers will be located throughout Donegal, including Buncrana, Bundoran and Letterkenny.
