Singer Sam Smith has been spotted all around Letterkenny this week - but what brings him to the coolest place on the planet?

Donegal is renowned for attracting celebrities in search of peace from the world of showbiz, so it didn’t come as too much of a surprise to see that Sam Smith has chosen the county as a sanctuary this week.

The world famous music artist was spotted in a The Lemon Tree restaurant on two occasions this week and told staff that he is smitten with Donegal. Smith said he is here to write new music and has been enjoying the incredible local scenery during his stay.

Award-winning chef and local food champion Christopher Molloy welcomed Smith and his group to the restaurant and snapped a photo with another staff member.

Smith told Chef Christopher that he was in Donegal to record new tracks, but couldn’t miss out on seeing the sights.

“He told us he was over making music and he had been travelling around Donegal. He said he was at Fanad Lighthouse and thought it was beautiful. He is enjoying the peace in Donegal during his stay.

“We asked him what he thought of our food and our playlist and he said he loved it all. Our playlist in the restaurant includes pop music and songs from local artists such as Callum Keaveny,” Molloy said.

Posting the photo online, Chef Christopher said he loves cooking for all his customers but he simply had to get a photo with a superstar like Sam Smith.

“I’d like to think he’ll be back again, since he clearly liked our food,” said Molloy.
