This week's weather forecast predicts unseasonably warm temperatures on the way to Ireland.

Met Eireann have forecast highs of 14 degree Celsius for Donegal in the middle of this week, and we’ll be free from frost worries for a few days at least.

However, the warm weather will bring heavy rain showers over the coming days.

Today has started off cold and frosty, with temperatures ranging from 5 to 8 degrees. East to southeast breezes will be light to moderate.

There may be patches of frost tonight, which will be overall dry, but a little rain or drizzle is expected in parts. Light southerly breezes will freshen later into the night. Overnight temperatures will range 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Here comes the sun

Tuesday is expected to bring heavy rain and fresh breezes. Temperatures will rise to between 12 and 14 degrees.

Daytime temperatures in Donegal are forecast as remaining high throughout the week, with Wednesday and Thursday being very mild for the time of year. Sunny spells are coming this Thursday and Friday.

The rain is expected to pass over by Friday afternoon in western parts of Ireland. The winter weather is back for the weekend, with colder temperatures, unsettled conditions and rain on the way.
