Letterkenny mammy Louise Flanagan has designed her Christmas tree in a novel way to take the danger out of the decorations.

She has taken away the spiky decorations and glass baubles, and replaced them with a collection of soft festive teddies. Santas, penguins, owls and gingerbread men hang from the branches, and the tree has inspired many Donegal mammies who have seen it on the Letterkenny Babies Facebook page.

Now Louise’s two little ones – daughter Lucy, aged three, and baby Evan, who is nine months old, can take toys from the tree and play with them without Louise having to worry about any festive accidents.

Louise tells Donegal Woman how her daughter Lucy loves the unusual tree.

“She reckons all the teddies are friends for her Elf on the Shelf to play with at night. She keeps her eyes peeled in the shops for suitable new additions for the tree too! It’s good fun. I’ve been gathering them up for 3 years now and tend to buy loads on sale after Christmas to use the following year. The tree gets more populated every year Evan is only 9 months, so he only admires it from afar just yet!!”
