Rihanna may have found love in a hopeless place, but many other people find love in beautiful locations.

A Donegal destination has been listed among the top 10 places in Ireland to fall in love. The beautiful Portsalon Beach is ranked in fifth place on a list on tourism website Ireland Before You Die.

Could it be the sprawling sands and rugged rocks of Portsalon that create the intimate setting for romance?

The list has the Cliffs of Moher ranked as the number one most romantic place in the county. This is followed by Glendalough in Co. Wicklow and Dingle in Co. Kerry. Surely they’ve never been to Glenevin Waterfall or Lough Eske in Donegal?

The website lists poetic quotes with each place on the list. Portsalon comes accompanied with some prose from Sean O’Faolain – “There is only one admirable form of the imagination: the imagination that is so intense that it creates a new reality, that it makes things happen.”

Which is your favourite beach for a romantic stroll? On Donegal Woman last week, we’ve seen a beautiful wedding day walk on Mullaghderg. Other lovebirds favour the sands of Sheephaven Bay or the grounds of Doe Castle to spend the day with their loved ones.
